Renting With Village Sport Shop


All of our MTBs are considered "Trail MTBs" and are suitable for all terrain KT has to offer.  Certain of our bikes feature longer travel suspension better suited to tackling steeper, more technical terrain featured in the Moose Haven area of KT and the jumps and features of the Burke Mountain Bike Park.  The price of our rentals includes a helmet, which is required to ride on Kingdom Trails.  Once made, reservations are non-refundable unless cancelled at least 48 hours in advance with notification sent in writing to rentals@villagesportshop.com.  Please remember to "Ride with Gratitude" and to purchase your Kingdom Trails membership for each rider and for each day your are riding.  Kingdom Trails memberships can be purchased online by clicking the button below:

Mountain Bike Rental FAQs

  • What's the appropriate bike for me?

    • Manufacturers have suggested rider height ranges per frame size.
    •  You should reference the recommended rider height range for selecting the size bike. Remember that smaller is NOT easier to ride. 
    • If you need help, give us a call or stop by the shop!

  • What if I want/need to cancel my rental booking?

    We have a firm 48 hour cancellation policy if you choose to cancel your booking.  Cancelling your reservation cannot be done online so please call the shop at 802.626.8448 if you choose to cancel and PLEASE ensure that contact is made with a VSS employee at least 48 hours ahead of time.  Alternatively you can email the shop at rentals@villagesportshop.com 48 hours prior to your rental pickup.  The one exception to this policy is actual Kingdom Trails closure, in which case your payment will be refunded.  Please note that the trails rarely close as drainage in the area is excellent and they hold up very well in wet conditions. Check the weather forecast in advance of your trip and plan accordingly.

  • When are bikes due back? Are there fees charged on late returns?

    Rentals are due back at 4:45pm all days except Sunday.  Sunday return time is 4:15pm.  We provide a 15 minute grace period befoer late fees are charged.  YOU WILL BE CHARGED A LATE RETURN FEE if bikes are not returned by shop close (5:00pm all days except Sunday, which is a 4:30 closing time).  Late Fees are as follows:


    16 mins - 60 mins:  $25.00

    61 mins +:  Full price of rental



  • Where can I get a Kingdom Trails (KT) pass?

    • You can log on th KT's website and purchase online https://www.kingdomtrails.org/membership
    • You can go to KT welcome center and purchase in person: 478 VT Route 114, East Burke, VT 05832, United States

  • Where should I ride?

    Kingdom Trails puts significant effort into clearly marking the trails, and has some preplanned and mapped out suggested routes.

  • What should I bring to ride?

    • Appropriate clothing for biking, considering weather.
    • Proper fitting bike helmet. A proper-fitting helmet should be snug but not annoyingly tight. It should sit level on your head (not tilted back) with the front edge one inch or less above your eyebrows in order to protect your forehead. Push the helmet from side to side and back to front. If it shifts noticeably (one inch or more), you need to adjust the fit.
    • Bike gloves.
    • Enough water for the duration you plan to ride.

    Is there drinking water accessible?

    • Due to COVID Village Sport Shop has had to suspend our public water filling station.
    • During normal operations there may be water filling stations located near the local bike shops and other businesses, however no water stations on the trail network.
    • Village Sport Shop sells bottled water out of our Trailside shop, and bike specific water bottles to put in bottle cages.

  • What is the Rental Waiver?

    Renting bikes from VSS is now done entirely online.  In order to reserve a bike, all customers  are required to "check the box" during the online booking process, acknowledging that you have read and agree to the terms of our liability waiver  which is available on our rental booking site.  This consent is legally binding and in lieu of a signature.

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY

If you decide you love the mountain bike equipment you rented and want to keep using it beyond the rental period, you may have the option to purchase it. This can be a great way to test out equipment before making a long-term investment, and it also ensures that you have high-quality gear that you feel confident using.
